The partnership law

On 5 June the “Federal Law on Partnerships of Same-sex Couples”, which aims to improve the legal situation of homosexuals living together, will be put to the vote. From the beginning the FSPC Council has given intensive support to the legislative procedure and has explicitly affirmed the partnership law in three statements (1996, 2000, 2002). At the beginning of March 2005, in a fourth briefing document to give ethical guidance, “Same-sex Couples. Statement on the ‘Federal law on partnerships between same sex couples’” (in German, see below), the FSPC Council once again gave extensive theological and ethical reasons for its positive attitude, against the background of the current objections of the referendum.
